In our last episode, John Manton agreed to take on the identity of Bernard Treves in order to pay back money that disappeared while in his keeping. The method of payment as well as the details of the assignment remain a mystery. Perhaps we will find out more in chapters 3 and 4 of “Bernard Treves’s Boots.
